Painterly portraits for film, tv productions and theatre.
I’ve always had a love for the work of painters like Rembrandt, Vermeer and Frans Hals. I find real joy in looking at how they all worked with the limited light available - from a candle or natural window light. Looking at each piece the light subtly wraps around the subject as the surrounding backdrop fades into darkness giving such a powerful mood to every painting. For me as a photographer creating painterly portraits has its challenges but applying a similar thought process to the portraits you can produce something not too shabby with help from modern day flash units and some post shoot processing.
